This Award exists
to encourage young musicians to keep their tradition alive
and to maximise their musical potential by the pursuit of
a career in traditional music. The winner will be provided
with high profile performance opportunities and the necessary
tools and advice they require to launch a career in traditional
music.
CLOSING DATE FOR APPLICATIONS
- Friday 4th July 2008
Entrants must compete an application form and return it to
the address given with a short biography and a 10-minute recording
of their playing. Notes to the recording are also required,
where names of songs and/or tunes played and source/background
should be detailed. Applications must be received no later
than Friday 4th July 2008. Accompanists entering the award,
eg guitarists or percussionists, may have a lead instrument
on their recording, eg accordion. An adjudication panel will
choose 12 semi-finalists from entries received. All semi-finalists
will be notified during the week beginning Monday 18th August
2008. NB Recordings can be in CDR, mini-disc (short play only),

SEMI-FINALS
WEEKEND - Friday 5th Sunday 7th October 2007
A fun residential weekend at Wiston Lodge, Wiston, South Lanarkshire
including workshops and advice on all aspects of working in
the traditional music business. Each semi-finalist will perform
a 10 minute slot at an evening concert in
Coulter Hall, Coulter, South Lanarkshire (accompanists will
be provided where required) on Saturday, October 6th (start
time 7.30pm), which will be judged by a panel drawn from professional
traditional musicians, festival organisers etc. This years
semi-final concert is sponsored by Clydesdale Folk Club. Read

will be notified by letter (during the week beginning 8th
October 2007)
FINALS
WEEKEND - Friday 25th Sunday 27th January 2008
Celtic Connections Festival, Glasgow The Grand Final will be held
at Celtic Connections Festival, Glasgow on 27th January 2008.
Finalists will perform for 15 minutes in
a concert setting and can be accompanied by a professional
traditional musician of their choice (from a group provided).
The winner of BBC Radio Scotland
Young Traditional Musician 2008 will be awarded:

profile festivals in the the UK and rest of the world.
