Gillian
Frame
Gillian Frame comes from the Isle
of Arran on the West Coast of Scotland. Hailing from
afamily of musicians she was introduced to traditional
Scots and Irish music at an early age. Gillian began
playing the fiddle at the age of ten and by the age
of thirteen she had already recorded an album with family
band The Angels Share. During this time
The Angels Share were performing regularly
at Folk Festivals most notably Lorient Festival in Brittany.
In 2000 Gillian was invited to
record with Margaret Bennett for her new album In
the Sunny Long Ago, and in January 2001 at Celtic
Connections Gillian won the prestigious Young Scottish
Traditional Musician 2001 Award.
Since then Gillian has been rapidly
gaining experience in all areas of traditional music,
using her talents as fiddle player and singer. This
includes performances at Celtic Connections, playing
solo fiddle in Mark Sheridans piece The
Curve of the Earth at Lorient Festival, various
appearances on Radio Scotland, and teaching at schools
and summer schools throughout Scotland. She recently
graduated from the BA (Scottish Music) Hons degree at
The Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, Glasgow.
During the Celtic Connections festival
this year Gillian debuted her New Voices Commission,
which consists of all her own compositions and arrangements,
and amongst numerous other performances played in the
first ever, Unusual Suspects a piece put
together by Corrina Hewat and Dave Milligan involving
over thirty of Scotlands top Traditional Musicians.

Gillian Frames performance
was all we have come to expect from the inaugural Young
