DUMFRIES AND GALLOWAY

Wee Clanjamfrie with Jock Tamson's Bairns, Lionel McClelland, Gregor Lowrey, Mike Whellans

Mike Whellans
Remarkable one-man blues band. Scotsman Mike Whellans is a consummate
bluesman: a brilliant songwriter, a sharp singer, and a mean hand at the guitar. Think of him as Jimmy Reed or Willie Dixon transplanted from Lake Michigan to the shores of Loch Lomond. Has to be seen to be believed!

Jock Tamson's Bairns
Jock Tamson's Bairns is one of our country's most respected bands, having carried the torch for true Scottish music since their inception at the end of the 1970s. Their 'Lasses Fashion' album of the 80s is still regarded as one of the finest expressions of the great revival of traditional music that helped shape and create the contemporary Scottish identity. The Bairns' energy, humour and taste is unflagging, as they continue their tradition of inventive acoustic music on authentic instruments - eschewing synthesizers, sequencers, didgeridoos or African drums - producing refined accompaniment to Scots songs and ballads, or exciting arrangements of intricate, fast dance tunes on fiddles, whistles, squeeze boxes, jews harp, moothie, guitar and bodhran - all played with obvious accomplishment, and heart. `Not a group that compromises - they play Scottish music the way it is.. the arrangements are very crafted, but there is also a lot of variety, a lot of fun and spark....a great band.` Archie Fisher/Sue Wilson, BBC Radio Scotland, Feb 2001.
