BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional Musician 2007 semi-finalists announced.

On Friday 6th October at Wiston Lodge, South Lanarkshire 12 of Scotland's best young traditional musicians will convene the 2007 BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional Musician Award. The musicians who come from all over Scotland will spend a weekend with industry workshops, photographs and music sessions with a sell out public concert on the Saturday 7th October in nearby Coulter Hall (start time 7.30pm) where each will perform a 10 minute programme. Six musicians will be chosen from this semi-final by a panel of judges to go through to the finals at the prestigious Celtic Connections festival in January.

This is the 7th year of this event which is increasing in popularity all the time. Every winner of this Award has been successful and regularly appears on radio and TV as well as performing worldwide.

Accordionist Jim Gold from Douglas, South Lanarkshire will be the recipient of the David Roberts Memorial Plate, an award for to a promising traditional musician under the age of 16 in South Lanarkshire.

The winner will be provided with high profile performance opportunities and the necessary tools and advice they require to launch a career in traditional music.
