On Friday 7th October 2005, 12 of Scotland's top young traditional musicians will convene to take part in this year's prestigious BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional Musician Award semi-finals at Wiston Lodge, South Lanarkshire. This is an Award that exists to encourage young musicians to keep their tradition alive and to maximise their musical potential by the pursuit of a career in traditional music. The musicians will take part in a weekend of industry workshops and on Saturday 8th will perform in a concert in Coulter Hall, Coulter where 6 musicians will win through to the final at Celtic Connections festival in January.

BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award
If you are between the age of 15 and 20 BBC Radio 2’s Mike Harding Show is searching for talented performers for the eighth BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award. Entry to this exciting competition by is firstly by sending a recording and application form to Folkworks. Entry forms are downloadable from http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio2/r2music/folk or on paper from Folkworks at The Sage Gateshead -phone 0191 443 4571 or email folkworks@thesagegateshead.org. Closing date: entry forms and recordings must arrive by Monday 12 September.
